This speech was made a few years ago by then 5th grader Dalton Sherman to 20,000 teachers and school staff of the Dallas Independent School District.  Its message, however, is not only timeless but rings true for anyone whose goal is to help kids realize their potential.

Especially for so many of you who run out of school time programming, summer is the busiest time of year.  So many of you are spending your summers running positive activities for kids, on your feet all day, sweating gallons of water as soon as you drink them, and going home exhausted just to do it again the next day.  But we’re all here for a reason.

Why do you coach, or teach, or mentor?  Please explain your why in the comment section below!
